Welcome guys to the new year!!
Who else is with me in thinking that a new year feels like a fresh new start?!
I always love the time after new year’s where you take down all the holiday decorations (alright ill admit this is the sad part I know…) and clean and refresh your home. My favorite thing to do is just clean out and declutter.
Another thing I love to do like most people is to make resolutions or goals for the new year. Whether it’s for the year or a short period of time, I love the idea of setting a new goal that you want to try to accomplish.
Now I’m not talking the normal, “I want to get fit this year”, in my opinion that’s an empty goal. By all means if that works for you, GO FOR IT!!! But I already know and have been there done that and I know that it just will not work for me.
So here are the goals that I set for the New Year.

30 Day Yoga Challenge
One of my biggest struggles has been gaining weight and not doing anything about it but saying all the time that I want to change that.
A couple years ago in college I took a yoga class as an elective for gym and never really thought much about it. I LOVED that class. By the end of the semester I learned so much about yoga and my body never felt better! Ever since then I’ve been on a search to find a new yoga class or instructor who made me want to attend and keep going.
So I happened to stumble across a youtuber called Yoga with Adrienewhile browsing and instantly fell in love with her videos. She has videos for people at all stages in yoga and for all kinds of things. One of her videos I have done is yoga for bed and it was a nice easy 20 minute routine that made me feel relaxed and ready for sleep.
An awesome thing is she just started a challenge at the beginning of the new year that runs for 30 days. Each day of the challenge she puts up a new video for you to follow and each day it’s a different yoga routine. She is easy to follow and she makes everything super clear and easily understandable.
Another reason I think this challenge is awesome is because it’s completely FREE and you can do it from your own HOME. Yes you don’t even have to leave your house to do it. Whenever I have the time allotted for that day I just put on her channel and go to the day and do the workout. It is as easy as that.
I am so excited to also see how my body feels after the 30 days!
One thing I have always loved to do since I was a little girl is take photos. I always had a camera on me even if it was a disposable crappy camera.
I think is so cool to look back and see all these different comments you can capture with a camera.
Over the past year I have simply lost the drive to get out and take pictures. I want to get that feeling of not comparing my work and just doing it for fun. There are so many resources on the internet and youtube to learn more for free as well.
My goal is to expand my knowledge of photography more and just take more pictures. I miss how great this simply hobby made me feel and I want to get that feeling back again.
I hope to share many of my pictures here with you guys if thats something you would enjoy to see.
2019 I plan to get outside more and discover as much as I can. By travel I mean to just go anywhere. I don’t necessarily mean go on a vacation far away. It could simply mean driving half an hour away to hike on a trail I’ve been to before or maybe have not been too. To go discovery history in a nearby town. Or find a new place that has something cool to offer. It’s just to get out more and discover all these new places.
It’s so easy to make excuses but this year I’m going to stop. Now that we live in North Carolina I want to see everything we haven’t seen.
However I WONT say no to a road trip or flight to somewhere far away either.
Read 20 Books
A goal that I want to accomplish in 2019 is to read MORE. I say this every year probably but this year I ACTUALLY MEAN IT.
20 books seems fairly reasonable. However if I do way more that’s awesome but I really want to make it something attainable. About 2 books a month seems pretty reasonable.
On a side note, I have the Goodreads app and they make it so easy to set a goal and track the books you want to read and what you have read.
So far I’ve heard of so many good books coming out this year that I cannot wait to get my hands on, although I still have so many from last year’s list that I need to get through. –Whoops
I’ve been learning that you need to take care of you before you can take care of anyone else. I am the type of person who worries about everyone else before myself. I believe that this year I hope that I can put myself first. For me self-care is getting out to explore nature or taking more bubble baths while enjoying a nice face mask.
I suffer with anxiety and so many times I let it get the best of me and I feel that I should take care of myself.
I want to learn more about who I am and not the person I think everyone wants me to be.
I want to get more in touch with myself and take care of that person, I will be with her forever.
One thing I have always done is write or draw. I have always been more of a creative person. I used to keep a journal that I regularly would write or draw in. I love keeping notebooks and planners and write down all kinds of things.
In the last year I have lost touch with that, so for this year I plan to pick back up on it. Keep that journal right in a spot thats accessible for me and to just jot anything. I don’t have to write what I do daily but to write little experts of things big or small that I might want to look back on one day.
Writing is great for anyone and is super beneficial for you mentally as well.
Spending time with those I love
This is probably one of my top goals.
I want to make time for family and friends. Pick up the phone and send a text or make a call just a little more often. Spend more quality time with the phone away with Keven and Sadie.
The moments with your family and friends are the times you’ll remember forever. I want to make more time for those who matter.
Another goal for my new year is to work on our budget.
This is something I’ve always talked about doing and never really sat down to tackle. I want to make it a goal to sit down every month and write up a budget and see where our money is going, what it is going towards and maybe where it could be better put.
Since we are hoping to get a house in the near future and possibly take that honeymoon we never got to, we really want to save money and I KNOW that having a budget would be super helpful.
I believe that it’s never too late to start better habits, especially with your money.
In the past I have talked so much about going to volunteer at animal shelters or wherever I can.
This year is the year I actually put action to those words.
Less Screen Time
Recently there was an update on my phone telling me how much time a day or week I spend on my phone and let me tell you I was shocked. That endless scrolling of what you might think maybe be ten or twenty minutes here or there reallllly does add up. I’m ashamed to admit how much time I have actually spent on my phone.
It is as simple as it sounds?
So this year I plan to spend less time scrolling and more time doing other things that will bring me value for my time spent and happiness
Drink More Water
Why is this one so dang hard? When I was super healthy and in shape, I was guzzling water like crazy. Now I cannot get myself to drink it at all. As soon as I drink just a tiny bit I’m running to the bathroom. I honestly think it’s a thing when they say girls have small bladders — they do say this don’t they?
